If you're curious about what each application does, here's a breakdown. "Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be freely available to download: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine," said Google in a statement today. NIK COLLECTION ANALOG EFEX PRO GOOGLE FREE SOFTWAREWith the plethora of free image editing software available today, Google had no real profit from these seven, and as so, has taken the logical step and made them free for everyone. Each of them was sold individually.Īfter the Google purchase, the search giant bundled all these programs together, and made them available as the Google Nik Collection, sold for $149 (€133). NIK COLLECTION ANALOG EFEX PRO GOOGLE FREE FOR MACGoogle bought Nik Software in 2012, mainly for its mobile photo editor Snapseed, which Google eventually made available for free, while also siphoning away some of its features into other apps and services.īut besides Snapseed, Nik Software was also known for other seven image editing programs, available as standalone desktop software, for Mac and Windows, and as plugins for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Aperture. Bravo Google. In a Google+ statement today, Google announced it was making the Nik Collection software package free and was offering to refund all recent customers that purchased the app during 2016. If they did the barest of development (which was mostly compatibility to accomodate Adobe's new PSCC app) when it cost $149 you can rest assured that there will be absolutely none now that it is free. NIK COLLECTION ANALOG EFEX PRO GOOGLE FREE PROFESSIONALConsumers would have been (very) happy with Snapseed and professionals happy with the professional suite. So, in less than 3 short years Google has taken one of the most powerful imaging software suites and "sealed its fate" when all they had to do was purchase the single "Snapseed" app and leave the rest of the company viable for professional imagers. There were, and continues to be, no significant updates at all they were getting $149 and making some type of profit or at least paying the engineers. While they did develop "Analog Efex Pro", improvements on all the other apps all but ceased. Google dropped that to $149 immediately (just because they could). Prior to the acquisition the whole Nik professional imaging suite was a bargain for any serious professional retailing for just around $500. In 2012 Google bought Nik for one sole (consumer) product, Snapseed, in an (unsuccessful) attempt to lure Facebook users to Google+. The technology was (is) so good that if Nik decided to launch a stand alone imaging editing app Adobe would have had some serious competition. Their U point technology (at the time and still) was revolutionary allowing unprecedented enhancement control. Their product(s) were designed by professional photographers for professional photographers. I along with many imaging professionals have been using Nik since they partnered a decade (+) ago with Nikon. Here's why this is not as good news as it seems: ![]()
